HOMEPAGE

Welcome to the Hopi Distance Project

We are excited to share our intent of providing unique services and support for our Hopi people with a primary focus on running. The Hopi Distance Project (HDP) will create programs and events specific to the physical activity of running, that encourage the following 3 core areas of focus:

  1. Discipline: It is easy to sign up or commit to something. The hard part is following through with it. Our programs & events hold each participant accountable for their efforts in various ways.

  2. Determination: Teach every participant that training the mind is just as important as training the body. We encourage positive input and fun approach, while also encouraging a competitive mindset, at all levels of physical activity.

  3. Respect: Our programs and events will uphold the Hopi values of respect to one another as well as respect to the land. We believe that focusing on strengthening ourselves mentally, physically and spiritually through running, will allow us to support one another and move further together.

These core values will be emphasized hand-in-hand with our daily teaching of the cultural aspects of running which is extremely rich in the Hopi way of life.

The HDP also supports and promotes public health efforts as it pertains to:

  • Local/Traditional Hopi foods support and sustainability for all ages

  • School health promotion for students grades K-12

While a majority of our efforts will service our Hopi people residing on the Hopi reservation and neighboring communities, we aim to branch out and provide support to all Hopi runners beyond our Hopi reservation lines.
